R.I.P. Joe Kubert

Saddened by the news of Joe Kubert's passing. One of the few remaining Golden Age creators who was still making relevant comics today. He gave us a lifetime of work and helped develop several generations of comic book artists. The argument can be made that no one man has given more to the art-form of comics than Joe Kubert.

Blue Dynamo Sketch:

Here's the colored version of my Blue Dynamo Sketch that I did at Wild Pig. Dan Sehn was nice enough to have his superb colorist work this one over. You can buy Argo 5 #6 here at Indyplanet.

Huntress Update:

I didn't get to work on this much last night but I laid down some more inks.

HUNTRESS Sketch Work in progress:

Some additional pencils and preliminary inks on this sketch.

My daughter Emily was so inspired by our day at the Tosho Con at the Rockville Center Library last Saturday that she started writing a story. It's based on a song and borrows heavily from Alice in Wonderland. She asked me to draw something for her so here's my White Rabbit.

These are sketches that I've either recently started or have gone back to in the hopes of finishing.

The Afterbirth CD cover image:

I was asked by my friends in the band The Afterbirth to draw a cover to their latest CD. I believe it's going to be called "Let's have a miscarriage" below is my original sketch and the finished piece.

HVZA The Graphic Novel:
I had the pleasure of being asked to take part in an anthology comic last spring. I met Don Smith and Nick Mockoviac at a New Jersey Comic Book show in March and they were gracious enough to invite me to contribute art for a 9 page story. It was written by the very talented Joe Sergi whose words deserved much more than my meager doodles. I did my best had a lot of fun and of course learned a whole lot. The anothology should be available this fall.

OK so I've decided I'm spending too long between blog posts so I'm officially catching up.

After the Doctor Who commission a couple of things happened:

1) Amy and I secured a table at the Wild Pig convention in New Jersey on Free Comic Book Day 2012.
2) I was asked to be part of the upcoming HVZA: Hudson Valley Zombie Apocalypse graphic novel.
3) I received an email regarding a commission for a fan to be picked up at Wild Pig

I love the Wild Pig con and Chris Eberle the show runner. I first met Chris a few years back when I sold him some comics. He suggested at the time that Amy and I do his show. It's a great convention with a simple concept: all comics are .50 each and all trade paperbacks are 50% off cover price.  This particular show was special because it was Free Comic book weekend, Avengers opening weekend, a two day show and it was replacing the CGS Super Show that was cancelled this year. It has always been my goal to work our convention profile up slowly so that we could have a table at Super Show. I feel because Super Show has the backing of the Comic Geek Speak Podcast I'd have more eyes on our work as the show gets promoted.  The show was great and we had a ton of fun, met some wonderful people including Dan Sehn of Argo Comics.

I did a con sketch for Dan and it's going to be published in Argo 5 #6 with a cover by Rob Liefeld.  You can find Argo Comics at: www.facebook.com/pages/Argo-Comics/284699368210503

The Steve Rodgers sketch is the commission I did prior to Wild Pig and the two below were from the con floor.
